February 2012 Presidents Note…

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year break and are looking forward to the year ahead. Here at WATERDALE we’ve just finished one of our busiest starts of the year ever! Thank-you to everyone who volunteered to help or came down and supported our two fundraising barbecues on Jan 25th at Safeway St. Helena and on Jan 26th at Bunnings Warehouse. The successful barbecues were quickly followed up by our PARADE rehearsal weekend on January 28th and 29th, the cast look and sound amazing (thanks Aimee, Laura, Ian, Sophie, Emma, Helen and Jake) and ate their own weight in food (thanks to our kitchen queen Georgia!) All reports say this could be WATERDALE’s best Musical ever so make sure you book your tickets! The following weekend was our Annual Trivia Night hosted by the quiz masters Kris Brown and James Terry! A massive thank-you to everyone who came to the Trivia Night on February 6th, the night was our most successful ever! A big mention has to go to our Fundraising King Kris Brown who has constantly worked hard to make sure our fundraising events get bigger and better each year! I’m sure I’m not the only one who is looking forward to our Bingo event later this year!

As if our on-stage efforts didn’t keep us busy enough, we’ve also launched our new fortnightly video series called the “W-List” filmed by the brilliant James Terry, the W-List takes feedback from WATERDALE social media to create fun and entertaining lists from “Top-5 Elphabas” to “Best cat videos!” The videos are available from our YouTube channel WATERDALEonline, check them out!

And just because we’re sticklers for keeping busy, WATERDALE is giving back to the Banyule Community, with WATERDALE Dance Extraordinaire Emma Kiely being appointed facilitator of an excited new project called “massDANCE!” The project is a collaboration between a number of groups including the Concord School, Banyule Council and WATERDALE and is creating a “flash mob” style dance for the upcoming Arty Farty Parade on March 25th. Stay tuned to WATERDALE social media for updates especially for info on how you can learn the dance and be involved!

Preparations are well underway for our mid year project “Into the Woods” expect some exciting announcements soon including audition dates!

I hope to see you at a WATERDALE event soon!
